The ladies of the Agape Class visited the residents at Jeffery Place Health Care Center to treat them to a time of entertainment with the regular church service Park Lake provides for the residents. Park Lake member John Cowan has led a service each Sunday at 2:00 PM for the residents of Jeffery Place for many years. When he had an acident recently Don Highfill has taken over in his absence. The ladies helped with the service and played balloon volleyball with the residents.

     The J.O.Y. Club group went to the Johnnie High Country Christmas Revue in Arlington. We enjoyed the trip. We we supposed to see Christmas lights after the show, but Arlington limited the dates for the big display this year so we only saw a few.

      Today we had our last Busy Beavers for 2009. Busy Beavers has been a ministry of PLDBC since 1971. Once each month from March to November residents from area nursing homes come for a meal and entertainment. Some families of residents will use it as an opportunity to have a meal out with their elderly members. The group pictured above contains many who have served in this ministry faithfully for many years and some since it’s beginning.
     Food is provided by church members through the Sunday School classes. Thank you to Charlie Williams for some of the pics.

     This was the second year for our Fall Festival & Craft Fair. We applied a few lessons learned from last year and ended up with a little over 200 people/family groups registering. Karen Walsleben headed the planning team this year. Many people worked hard to make it work this year.

     Back again this year was KSUR 88.9 FM, the Pumpkin Patch Pictures and story time with Bill Austin, the “jumpy thing”, and others. New this year was the Texas DFPS Foster & Adopt booth, Central Texas Heart Gallery, and Bright Future.

     Charles has been working with other ministers of music each year to organize the Waco Community HymnSing. Our choir has been well represented all three years as well as Charles having a part of leading during a part of each year.

     This year the HymnSing consisted mainly of congregational songs, a song featuring Keron Jackson, and one song featuring the whole Community Choir. Charles led the congregation during “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”

     Some Sunday nights the students have what Craig has called S.E.E.D. I forget what the acronym is, but it includes edification and eating on Sunday nights. Clint & Beth Ann enjoy having the students to their home. The night included nachos and a twangy lemonaide with other food. The group was a little down due to extracurricular activities, but everyone had a good time.

     I almost forgot to post this one. On September 26 the Adult 2 department held another of their Bunko Parties. Brandon Brenner had won a couple of these bunko games in a row and as a result fashioned for himself a crown and accessories for himself. This time, however, he passed his regal acutriments to his brother Derek Brenner. Derek accepted them with his unusual grace and style. There is only one picture, but one picture is worth a thousand words.

     Long live the king!

      Cheryl & Tom Pina hosted the members of Cheryl’s Sunday School class and their families. It was raining hard, but Tom grilled hot dogs and sausage dogs for everyone. Kids were all over the house.

     On August 2, 2009 Amos Humphries came to preach “in view of a call.” His wife, Mariah, came with him on the 2nd and shared in getting to know the rest of the staff and the church. The 16th was Pastor Amos’ first Sunday. He and his family where welcomed by the church at a fellowship that night.
